Hypomyces chlorinigenus Rogerson & Samuels, Mycologia 81: 423, 1989.

Anamorph: Sepedoniumchlorinum (Tul. & C. Tul.)Damon, Mycologia 44: 95, 1952.

Teleomorph in nature: Subiculum effuse, yellowish brown(10YR5/6) to light brown(10YR6/8), brown(10YR4/6), covering entire surface of hymenium; hymenial hyphae 1.5?5 (?6.5) μm in widt, parenchymatous, septate, thick-walled and KOH (-). Perithecia vivid yellow(5Y8/10) to yellowish brown(10YR5/6),orange(10YR8/10), obpyriform to broadly ellipsoidal, (139-)152-165(-211)×(119-)145-185(-205) μm, born in groups harf-immersed in the mycelia; papilla conical, (33-)46-53(-73)× (66-)86-92(-112) μm. Asci cylindrical, (59-)65.5-69 (-93) × (4-)4.5-5 (-5.5) μm, eightspored with a stalk (6.5-)9.5-19 μm long, forming a pore at the slightly thick-walled apex. Ascospores hyaline, fusiform, always equally and unequally two-celled, (5.5-)11.5-13 (-15) × (2-)3-3.5(-4) μm, verrucose with warts of <0.5 μm in diameter, apiculate but rounded at both ends; apiculi 0.5-1 μm long.

Characteristics in culture: Colonies on MEA, grow rapidly to reach 90 mm in diam. after 7 days at 25oC, floccose, vivid yellow(5Y8/10) to orange(10YR8/10), cadmium orange(10YR7/14), margins dentate, odor none, reverse vivid yellow(5Y8/10) to orange (10YR8/10). Hyphae are hyaline, septate, thick-walled, (2-)4-5(-7.5) μm.  Conidiophores born from aerial hyphae, semi-macronematous, septate, slightly thick-walled, two to three times branched irregularly, 3.5-5 μm wide, forming conidiogenous cells at the apex. Conidiogenous cells born at the apex or laterally as a well-developed verticil of 3-4 on the conidiophores, hyaline, (17.5-)35-80(-163) × 1.5-3 μm, lanceolate, gradually tapered to the apex of 0.5-1 μm in width. Conidia clusters from the apex of conidiogenous cells, hyaline, aseptate, cylindrical to lellipsoidal, broadly ellipsoidal, thin-walled, smooth, (3-)5-10 (-22.5) × (1-)1.5-4 (-7.5) μm. Chlamydospores produced laterally on the substrate hyphae or terminally at the apex of the branches, pastel yellow(5Y9/4) to light yellow(5Y9/6),vivid yellow(5Y8/10), prominently longitudinally ridged , long ellipsoidal to ellipsoidal , apex obtuse, (25-)30-37.5(-52.5)×(12.5-)15-17.5(-22.5) μm.

Habitat: parasitic on Boleticolous
